THE festival season got off to a storming start this weekend with headlining shows from the ROLLING STONES and IRON MAIDEN.

More than 80,000 fans filled Donington Park to see Iron Maiden’s return to the UK at Download, alongside acts including MARILYN MANSON.

And the Stones led a glittering line-up including AMY WINEHOUSE at the Isle of Wight Festival.

MICK JAGGER and Co were joined on stage by PAOLO NUTINI. The Scot supported the band last year and was chuffed to be asked back. But fellow countrymen THE FRATELLIS were less keen, complaining that the Stones’ demands ruined “the karma”.

The rock legends took over the nearby Travel Inn hotel and demanded a covered walkway to the local pub, where they ordered shepherds pie for their 100-strong entourage.


Meanwhile, Amy tarnished her wild woman image by wimping out of a fairground ride.

After a storming set on Saturday night, the Rehab singer relaxed yesterday by ordering 24 bottles of champagne in her hotel room, followed by a boozing session backstage in the Bacardi B-Live tent.

But despite all that Dutch courage, she leapt off a scary ride at the festival funfair just seconds before it set off, leaving hubby Blake Fielder-Civil to go it alone.

Other festival caners included ANNA FRIEL, Hollywood star ROSARIO DAWSON and KASABIAN, who decided to redecorate their hotel room after their Saturday gig.
